About Us
I THINK THEREFORE IB!
The International Baccalaureate, formerly known as The International Baccalaureate Organization, is an international educational foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland founded in 1968. IB offers four educational programmes for children aged 3–19. The organization’s name and logo were changed in 2007 to reflect a reorganization. Consequently, “IB” can refer to the organization itself, any of the four programmes, or the diploma or certificates awarded at the end of the programme.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a highly coordinated, rigorous course of study linking the Humanities, the Sciences, Mathematics, Languages and Community Service. The Curriculum of the IB Diploma Programme incorporates standards that assume a high level of aptitude and achievement. The subjects studied are arranged according to six areas and the candidate is required to choose one subject from each area. The full Diploma requires advanced international examinations in the six subject areas plus the required Theory of Knowledge course and paper, a 4,000 word research paper titled the Extended Essay, and 150 hours of community service and extracurricular activities called Creativity, Action, and Service (CAS).
