WE KNOW MONEY!
Business education plays a prominent role in preparing students to become responsible citizens, capable of making the astute economic decisions that will benefit their personal and professional lives.
Business teachers introduce students to the basics of personal finance, the decision-making techniques needed to be wise consumers, the economic principles of an increasingly international marketplace, and the processes by which businesses operate.
The Academy of Business and Finance introduces students to the broad career opportunities in the business and financial services industry, and in the process, equips them with the tools to make sound choices for their future. This academy is a member of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), whose headquarters is in New York. Upon entering this academy students begin preparing for a post-secondary education in the field of business and or/finance as well as preparing for a career in the business community. Our students receive a well-rounded curriculum in both business and finance. Part of our curriculum is provided by the National Academy Foundation (NAF), and the other part of the curriculum is from Miami-Dade County Public School system.
The Academy features a four year academic program that augments the standard curricula. In addition to their required courses, Academy of Business and Finance students take specialized courses each year in the areas of business, finance and marketing. Students in this academy will explore the ins and outs of the business world as well as the financial aspects of working in a business. The business community of banking, finance, marketing, and management leaders will network closely with our future business leaders. Students will have access to instant financial news updates through the internet, and they will master industry-standard software to give them the knowledge to succeed. Once they have learned the tools for success students will demonstrate their ability through an extensive internship experience in business. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school.
The Academy program also features:
- Extensive compensated internship in the summer
- Receive Advisory Board assistance
- Student membership in FBLA and/or NBHS
- Exposure to businesses through job shadowing and field trips
- National scholarship opportunities from NAF and Advisory Board
- Attend student conferences, college fairs, and business forums
Students in the Academy receive a new context for learning. The Academy helps build the motivation, confidence, and sense of personal worth that will lead students of all backgrounds to success. The Academy serves a diverse group of students of all abilities; the program has proven particularly effective for those who are not achieving their full potential.
