College Assistance Program
Welcome to Dr. Perez’s CAP (College Assistance Program) Page. The College Assistance Program is a unique postsecondary advisory program unique to Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The specialized focus of the program enables CAP advisors, such as Dr Perez to serve students more effectively because of their specific expertise in this field. It is one the few college-help services in schools nationwide that initiates contact with the students and works with them throughout their post-secondary journey, from exploration to research to testing to admissions and ultimately financial aid and scholarships.

The CAP Scholarship Bulletin provides information and links to over 300 postsecondary scholarship opportunities. Students are encouraged to subscribe to scholarship search engines to access additional scholarship opportunities as this bulletin is not an exhaustive list.

Students can start earning micro-scholarships as early as 9th grade. Add accomplishments in and outside of the classroom, keep your profile up to date and watch your scholarships stack up! All students are encouraged to create an account, discover colleges and build micro-scholarship earnings to pay for college expenses.

BigFuture
BigFuture Scholarships are awarded to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who create a College Board account and complete a series of required tasks to qualify for scholarships. There are no essays to complete, no minimum GPA or test score and no citizenship requirements. All sophomores, juniors and seniors are encouraged to participate.
CAP
The CAP, Inc Grant, named after Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ College Assistance Program, is a scholarship available for students who have exhausted all other avenues of financial aid, but still have unmet needs to cover the cost to attend the college or university of their choice. Each year, many students who apply are awarded the scholarship to help them attend college.

The United Negro College Fund is the nation’s largest private scholarship provider to minority group members. Each year, they award more than $100 million in scholarships to students attending more than 1,100 schools across the country, including the prestigious network of 37 Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

SCOIR

SCOIR is an online college planning platform to expand college access and improve collegiate outcomes for students. SCOIR’s comprehensive tool allows students to complete college searches and virtual tours as well as complete portions of the application process.
MDCPS launched SCOIR in all high schools in the Spring of 2020. All high school students have access to SCOIR’s career and college planning tools. Additionally, this platform allows school counselors and college advisors to communicate with colleges, parents, and students, submit electronic transcripts & waivers, and collect vital college access data.

ACT/SAT/CLT Prep
2025-2026 SAT, ACT, CLT Test Dates
The SAT is offered multiple times each year. In 2025-2026, it will be administered on one Saturday in each of the following months: March, May, June, August, September, October, November, and December.
ACT National test dates are for the United States, US territories, and Puerto Rico.
- If you missed the regular registration deadline for a test date, you can still register by the late registration deadline for an additional fee.
- If you did not register for a test date by the late registration deadline, you may be able to request standby testing for an additional fee.
The CLT is an online college entrance exam for 11th and 12th graders. This test is accepted at many (but not all) colleges across the US (view partner colleges here). It is also accepted for Florida Bright Futures eligibility.
