Students in the Academy of Agriscience will explore the field of Agricultural Biotechnology while learning about areas of current agricultural biotechnology applications, genetic principles, tissue/cell culture, and the potential for biotechnology in the field of agriculture. Research partnerships with the United States Department of Agriculture will enable students to participate in summer internships and conduct research on rare and native tropical plant and animal species impacting the industry. Students will explore additional processes to harness renewable energy, more efficient and effective methods utilizing existing resources, and ways to reform the global hunger crisis. Students follow a sequential program of study that leads to industry certification. Through their participation in the National FFA Organization, students will have opportunities to develop their leadership and professional development skills.

Engineering

The Academy of Engineering follows Project Lead the Way’s very rigorous national curriculum. The curriculum is based on the ideals of project-based learning and 21st century skills, which include hands-on projects with emphasis on how these newly learned skills can be applied to the workplace. The curriculum covers almost all the topics included in a four-year college engineering program. Students will have the opportunity to learn engineering concepts and theories, and then apply them in the classroom to examples of current real-world engineering problems. This program provides students with an advanced understanding of the knowledge, human relations, and technological skills found in today’s engineering professions. Students follow a sequential program of study that leads to industry certification. Students will be able to participate in the National TSA and SECME organizations.

The Agriscience and Engineering Staff strive to provide our students with innovative and interactive lessons that connect to the real world.

Our Services

Both our Agriscience and Engineering Academies are National Academy Foundation Academies (NAF). NAF provides a rigorous, industry-validated career-themed curriculum that incorporates current industry standards and practices, literacy strategies, and STEM integration. NAF’s instructional practices foster cross-curriculum collaboration so students can make connections across subject areas. The NAF curricula is created in partnership with industry professionals and designed around projects that help students acquire valuable workplace skills and see their education as a step toward long-term career options.
